The University of Western Ontario recently rebranded to Western University of Canada. The 2012 Homecoming was a celebration to the University’s proud history and transitioning future. With a fresh look, Alumni Western announced their distinguished recipients of the 2012 Alumni Awards of Merit. While each of them had their start at Western, their four unique journeys have taken them around the world and back again. The award recipients include: Carolyn Lawrence, who operates a growing North America-wide event, marketing and media company, whose purpose is to provide access to female business role models in order to advance women in the workforce; Towhid Noman, a special needs teacher for the Toronto District School Board and avid volunteer in the South Asian community; John Roder, one of Canada’s most successful research scientists, who continues to learn and discover while living with the harsh reality of Huntington’s disease (HD). His contributions to science are reflected in more than 270 peer-reviewed papers and his election to the Royal Society of Canada. Roder is the recipient of the Professional Achievement Award. Agnes Chan, a successful businesswoman who has given generously of her time and talents to her community and to Western. Recipient of the The Dr. Ivan Smith Award, which is Alumni Western’s highest honour. Western University worked closely with VCM Interactive, a Toronto based video production company, to produce a series of videos to honour the alumni award recipients. 3 out of 4 videos are below:
