Visualization Timeline – How the Animation Industry Has Changed Over Time

Over 65% of people are visual learners. Therefore it is not surprising that content such as infographics and videos are becoming so popular. A recent study revealed that video will draw about 82 percent of online traffic by 2021. If you have a message to get across to your audience, the best way to do it is through video.

There are various choices for types of films. These include live action videos and animation videos. The latter is increasing in popularity over the years. Animated videos are not only visually engaging but also allow brands to tell their stories in ways that live action films can’t.

Animation has come a long way. The introduction of computer-generated images has seen a great exodus from 2D to 3D animation Toronto. More people are using 3D images for product visualization in corporate films including demos and training videos.

VCM has been in the industry for over 3 decades and has seen animation techniques evolve and their application in various sectors. We’ve literally seen it change and develop into what it is today.

The beginnings

The earliest animations were made from simple drawings that had to be photographed one at a time and flipped to create the illusion of movement. The 1920s however, saw the introduction of celluloid, which was the first step towards the animated features we know today.

Walt Disney, who is considered the father of animated videos, revolutionized the industry with the introduction of Mickey Mouse in 1928 in the movie Steamboat Willie. This was followed by various other animated features including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs released in 1937. All this was possible with celluloid technology, which involved the use of two transparent cells. One had the character drawn on it and the other the background. This meant the artists didn’t have to redraw entire scenes.

Introduction of Computer technology and 3D animation Toronto

Visualization since the introduction of animated videos in the corporate world has relied heavily on traditional drawing techniques. However, the introduction of computer-generated images has changed all that. Advances in technology have enabled designers to create images entirely on computer. This process is not only less arduous but has also given the artist more control over the image produced.

The advances in technology have also seen a rise in 3D animation Toronto. Images of characters and objects are created in a 3D coordinate system. When the frames are as desired by the artist, the artist can manipulate the image to create a sense of movement e.g. a ruffling of the clothes to create the effect of wind.

Advances in technology are taking animated features even further. Computer-generated images are becoming more popular as the technology gives the artists even more freedom to push the boundaries of their art.Complex systems are being applied for motion control and model articulation to create characters with personality, charm, and depth. Artists are able to create images that are almost life-like but that can achieve much more than one could with a live-action feature.

Despite all the advances in technology, one truth remains. In order to have a great piece of animation, you will need a creative talent to help you. If you want to make the most of animation for product visualization, get in touch with us today.
