At VCM Interactive we are often approached by companies wondering what their options are for a corporate video production. It can be difficult when you are approaching video production for the first time to know:
- What type of video do I need?
- What type of production company do I need?
- How long does it take to make a video?
- What is involved in the production?
- How much of my time will be needed?
- What do I do with the video once it is made?
- Where does the production happen?
- How much money do I need to spend?
These are all understandable questions and very justified but we have just one question we ask back before we can answer all these: What’s your budget? This might seem like a very forward question that might indicate we just want to find out how much we can charge you, but this could not be further from the truth. We ask this question for one critically important reason. That reason is there is no point in offering you a Mercedes if your budget is more in-line with a Ford. We have been doing this job for so long it is critically important to our business to retain customers so we will always offer you the best product for whatever your budget is. There no point in telling you about the latest 3D animation for your new product or service if you can only afford a one camera, one day shoot!
When we were first approached by BookNet Canada we had this situation. BookNet Canada is a non-profit company that supports the Canadian book industry and does some sterling work. Despite this sterling work many people did not know about the company, or at least did not know exactly what they did. They wanted a series of three ‘Explainer Videos’ that told people about the company and explained what they did. There are so many ways we could tell their story but what would determine this was their budget. For a corporate video production Toronto budgets can vary greatly. At VCM we offer a very reasonably priced ‘Budget Package’ to help out those with smaller budgets. We always emphasize to people though that this is a very bare-bones production that is nowhere near as glossy as many of the videos we make and that your finished video production is a direct reflection of the quality of your business. However, we know some people just need some basic videographer work done in the Toronto area and then edited together by someone who knows what they are doing.
It would be remiss of my to talk about BookNet Canada’s budgets but they wanted really something high-end and glossy so they could impress people. Once they told us their budget we were able to offer a few different ideas of what could be achieved for that sort of money. Below is the result of one of the three videos we created that we are immensely proud of.
At VCM Interactive we know we might not be best placed to deal with every corporate video production request we receive for a variety of reasons but we love advising companies regardless of whether they use us, or not. This is because having thriving businesses in the Toronto and Mississauga area is good for everyone.
