DVD Duplication Toronto- What is duplication, replication and authoring?

You need to make several copies of your media and don’t have much time, also aren’t sure if your format will work properly; what to do? You know that duplication, replication and authoring services are available, but are not sure which one you need. We know that this can be a dilemma, so we are giving a broad idea of what these terms stand for.

Difference between duplication, replication and authoring services

There are basically two ways to make a copy of a DVD. One option is to burn the information onto a blank recordable disc; this is called duplication. Another method is to add the information during the disc manufacturing process; this technique is known as replication. That’s the main difference between the two procedures.

The process of duplication is somewhat similar to burning a disc on your personal computer. The unit extracts the data from the original disc and writes it into a blank DVD. However, professional equipment can produce duplicates in large number, in towers that make many copies simultaneously.

Replication involves a manufacturing process. A stamper is developed with all the content and then loaded into an injection molding machine that creates the replicates. In other words, many identical discs are being created from the original content, rather than copying it.

The two methods also differ in terms of standard turn-time, minimum order requirements, unit costs & making duplicates faster. As for capacity, replicated discs can contain two layers of date, while duplicates have one layer. There are also some risks involving qualities of burned copies if proper equipment isn’t used.

However, both methods extract data from the original in the same way. The finished product performs in the same manner, although there will be some visual differences depending on how the discs are printed.

On the other hand, authoring services involve assembling of all the elements required for production (i.e. video, stills, menus, subtitles and audio) into a format compliant with international specifications, which ensure compatibility between all DVD players and contents recorded. If this criterion is not met, the content may not play properly, or not play at all. Therefore authoring is a key element of a video production so that it can be successfully transformed into a commercially usable disc, regardless of how the copies will be made. Authoring services apply to the original content, not to each individual copy.

Understanding the differences between duplication, replication and authoring, can help you make a better decision on which one you actually need for your business and whether your content needs some authoring.

DVD Duplication in Toronto

If you need to make copies, and your content won’t require multiple layer recording, then you should consider some of the advantages of DVD duplication. When burning copies of your discs there are no minimum order requirements, doesn’t matter if you need just one or over a million units. Time is also an advantage since turn-times are only a couple of days or even hours.

Deciding what the best method for copying your discs is, can be a difficult pick, and one method may not apply to all cases, but duplication is a simple and fast process that can help you produce the media material you need in no time. In Toronto and its surroundings, there are many companies offering this service, just make sure to find a firm with the right equipment, so that the quality of the content won’t decrease with every copy
