Mighty Machines
CASE STUDY
Mighty Machines, DVD Authoring - Integrating interactive games with broadcast video content. The Challenge:
Mighty Machines is a fascinating children's TV series featuring exciting live footage, and friendly, informative characters, dynamic music and delightful humour. The series producer, Seville Pictures, created an interactive CD game, featuring characters from the story, which was bundled along with VHS copies of the videos. They decided to combine these approaches with a DVD version.
The Solution:
VCM created a DVD version which included three episodes of the TV show, Mighty Machines at the Demolition Site, Mighty Machines at the Quarry, and Mighty Machines at the Construction Site. The video was encoded in two pass variable bit rate MPEG-2 encoding. The CD-ROM game programming, which had been done with an older version of Macromedia Director, was completely reconstructed, using a more current version of Director, and put on a DVD-ROM portion of the disc.
Conclusion:
Initial sales of the DVD were very strong, and Seville Pictures received re-orders almost immediately. It became Seville Pictures third-best DVD title in 2002. Plans were immediately launched to create a second, third, and subsequent editions. In total VCM created all 9 DVD episodes in this series.
